Moving Damage

Moving is not an easy task. In addition to being a very stressful time for you and your family, moving damage can occur at just about any stage of the process. From packing your possessions to loading them onto the truck, transporting, storing and then delivering them to your final destination, the opportunity for damage is fairly high.

The good news is that in most cases, moving (or transit) damage can be readily repaired to like new condition. Generally, light scratches, scrapes and scuffs can be repaired in your home professionally and quickly. In more severe cases, items may have to be taken to our professional shop and office facility for complete repair or restoration.

Filing a moving claim can be a challenge if you are unfamiliar with the process. If you have questions regarding how to begin the process, we invite you to give us a call and we will be happy to advise you. There is a limit on how long after a move a claim can be filed so be sure to get started quickly and if you need advice, feel free to call!

Once you have submitted your claim, it is likely that we will be asked to come and inspect the damages to see how severe the damages are and whether any of the claimed items can be repaired. Don’t throw anything away! In many cases, in order for the moving company to pay for repairs or replacement of an item, the damage has to be verified first. Also, it is very helpful if we can get to all the items on your claim list and have access to photograph them. It If we determine that the damaged items can be repaired, we will work with the moving company’s claims professional and with you to schedule time to get the repairs made as quickly as possible. We will keep the moving claims person updated as to the progress of the claim and you will have the opportunity to ‘approve’ our work prior to closing the claim.

In addition to repairing damaged furniture, we have an extensive network of other service providers that we call on to assist us in handling a moving claim. Whether we need to employ the services of a master clockmaker, a small engine repair company or an appliance repair firm, we can coordinate with these other professionals to help get your claim handled as quickly and professionally as possible.
